Evolution of Mobile Networks

It has been consistent efforts of telecommunication industry, due to which wireless networking capabilities has been transformed exponentially from 1Generation to 5Generation; A generation signifies the standard of phone network which has been around since early 80’s.

Technology leading countries such as USA, South Korea and China have been putting resources behind the development of phone network standards; and it has been observed that great success that generation standards have premiered over the couple of decades, and the performance phone network has outshined five times over two decades.

In early 80’s, 1G standard had seized the attention all over the world, and developed countries have started adopting this first commercial cellular network using analog signals, which is a continuous signal represents physical measurements. The phone industry was also at their infant stage due to which phones overall quality was bad with poor battery and voice reception. The most annoying factor was size of the device, it was large with low consideration of design aesthetics.

It took almost a decade until 2G was introduced in the beginning of 90’s. This generation had digital signals with the new digital tool for wireless transmission which generally known as GSM – Global System for Mobile. This new Introduction has enabled improved, secured and reliable mood of communication. Multiple new features were introduced during this time such as SMS, conference call, call hold, international roaming and more. The cost of data was expensive as it was used to send and receive emails and text messages.

When 3G generation had been introduced in 2000’s, again the industry has invested almost the same time as evolving from 1G to 2G technology. Mobile phone hardware manufacturers were also getting momentum during this era; and mobile phones were available to the masses. 3G Industry transformed telecommunication and enhanced the data capacity services & data transmission with reduced cost; along with wide range of user case applications i. e browsing internet, sharing photos, downloading videos, playing game on mobile phone and engaging with social media.

On the nip of 2009, 4G had launched by upgrading to the existing technology, LTE – long term evolution was trend of the town. This technology has permitted device user to perform multimedia tasks with exorbitantly enhanced capabilities of higher rate of data. This technology stands for fast speeds generation in this era with high quality, assured security with affordable cost.

Now 5G standard has launched in 2019, which fifth generation standard which aims to provide unified experience, stands for speed up data at the optimum level and reduce latency as online video contributing~82% of the internet traffic. 5G deployment involves new standards to facilitate growing demand of internet of things. This also enhances reliability and sustain consistency of the network.
